dermatology

As the largest organ of our body, the skin is subject to the influence of internal and external factors. Quite often, various processes take place in it, which we observe on its surface. Whether it is about noticing symptoms or not, it is extremely important to continuously perform specialist examinations in order to detect and cure skin or venereal diseases in time.

Timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment of skin and venereal diseases, skin tumors and various allergic and immunological diseases leads to a better and longer-lasting way of life.

The dermatological team led by Dr. Perić Šušak, specialist in dermatology and venereology, carefully conducts specialist examinations to identify and treat various dermatological and venereological problems, ensuring precision in diagnosis and an approach to therapy adapted to the individual needs of each patient.

Dermatoscopy is a non-invasive technique that enables a detailed presentation of the structures of pigmented and non-pigmented skin changes and facilitates the diagnosis of skin diseases. This technique plays a key role in the early detection of malignant changes, providing patients with a preventive approach. In the polyclinic, we use the latest Dermlite DL5 dermatoscope, which allows us to photo-document the lesions and store them for easier monitoring of changes within the lesions. Considering the increase in malignant skin diseases, we always emphasize to patients the importance of both regular dermatoscopic monitoring and regular skin self-examinations.

Probatory biopsy is a procedure that takes a sample of skin tissue or to diagnose malignant and inflammatory skin diseases. The procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia, a small piece of tissue is taken, and the patient can immediately return to daily work and activities. The skin sample is sent for histological analysis, and within 2 weeks we have a pathohistological diagnosis.

Cryosurgery is a treatment method that uses liquid nitrogen to remove skin changes. In the polyclinic, we use a Cryopen device with medical liquid nitrogen, which allows us to penetrate deeper into the lesion and damage the surrounding tissue less. Cryotherapy is most often used in the treatment of actinic and seborrheic keratoses, vulgar verrucae, condylomas and solar lentigines.

After a specialist examination and dermatoscopy, if indicated, we refer our patients to surgical removal of atypical moles and malignant skin diseases. In addition to dermatologists, the team includes an expert team of surgeons who perform procedures under local anesthesia, and we send skin samples for pathohistological analysis. If necessary, reexcision of lesions can be performed in the polyclinic, as well as patient monitoring and further diagnostic tests. Our team is with the patients from the diagnosis, through the surgical procedure, all the necessary bandaging and removal of stitches and issuing the pathohistological findings.

The prick test for nutritional and inhalant allergens shows us a type I hypersensitivity reaction, which is manifested by the appearance of urticaria, angioedema, coughing, sneezing, watery eyes and runny nose, as well as gastrointestinal complaints such as vomiting and diarrhea and food intolerance. The skin test is performed by introducing small doses of an allergen into the skin of the forearm, which causes an allergic reaction of the first type in a hypersensitive person. If the person is allergic, swelling (hives) and redness will appear at the site of the sting with that allergen in about 15 minutes. 5 days before the test, patients must not take antihistamines, and must not apply local corticosteroids and topical immunomodulators to the forearm area.

Epicutaneous (PATCH) test: It serves to prove a late hypersensitivity reaction to contact allergens (type IV hypersensitivity reaction). The test is performed on the skin of the back, where patches with allergens are attached. The test reads after 48 hours, 72 hours and 7 days. At the Polyclinic, we have the option of performing epicutaneous testing with a series of 23 standard allergens, as well as testing with a series of professional allergens (dental and hairdressing sets). Patients can take oral antihistamines and prednisolone in low doses before and during the test.

The STD clinic provides a safe and confidential space for the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
